We are leveraging advances in wearable technology, signal processing, and patient sensing to provide affordable, personalized, non-invasive remedies for patients with neurological movement disorders. The company is headquartered in the Boston area and backed by leading investors in both healthcare and technology. Our primary goal is getting this useful technology to the people who could benefit from it as soon as possible.
Daniel Carballo, Allison Davanzo and Kyle Pina are cofounders of Encora Therapeutics, which is developing a smart wearable device that delivers customized vibrations to provide relief from tremors caused by Parkinson’s while, at the same time, monitoring the progression of the disease. The company has raised $17.6 million from investors including Innospark Ventures.
Encora is early in its journey in developing and launching an AI-powered wearable device that senses tremor severity in real time and introduces dynamic personalized vibro-tactile stimulus to the wrist. The “noise-canceling” device will not only help significantly reduce tremors and stiffness in a discrete and user-friendly way, but also help patients and physicians monitor disease progression in real time and optimize the care journey.
Encora is working on building affordable, non-invasive neurostimulation devices for those affected by movement disorders, including Parkinson’s. The wearables work by sensing, then counteracting a patient’s motor symptoms via customized vibratory stimulation to the wrist. Last week, Encora got a major boost in the form of $1.5M in pre-seed funding. The round was led by Innospark Ventures, with participation from Good Growth Capital (GGC), the Technology Accelerator Company and the SDX Holding Company.
They say you’re never too old to follow your dreams. Seems that you’re never too young, either. Boston teen and college-age technologists and entrepreneurs are living that mantra, founding companies, publishing books and working as venture capitalists without waiting for anyone’s permission. We looked across the Bay State to find some of today’s brightest young minds—and honor them through our annual awards list, 25 Under 25.

The Breakthrough Device Program was created to accelerate the path to market for innovative medical devices which demonstrate the promise to substantially improve the standard of care for patients with life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating conditions. The program fast-tracks development, assessment, and review by creating channels for prioritized communication and interaction between developers of new technologies and the experts at the FDA.
